LIMITED EDITION! Due to multiple requests this padauk hourglass is now offered in the 8x12 size for a limited amount of time. Handcrafted from solid padauk wood grown in Africa, the color is  reddish-brown, often with dark stripes. It is moderately hard and heavy with a medium texture and large pores and a very smooth surface. An elegant and unique wood, its color will deepen as the wood ages. If exposed to prolonged periods of direct sunlight it will turn a beautiful golden brown. Combined with glass bulbs hand-blown in England, this piece is beautiful.

As with all wood each piece will vary slightly in grain and color making each hourglass unique. Hourglasses are handmade so sizes are approximate.

Excellent Whimsical Timeglass

I love the custom-made hourglass. It is well-crated and well worth the price I paid. The Padauk wood is awesome! The laser engraving on the end-caps is great too! It is a great, inspirational piece for my novel the Stoneseekers - which features just such a device.

I only have two complaints. I wish the laser engraving had gone parallel with the grain of the wood. I did not specify this when I placed the order though, so I am not upset. The other complaint involves the inexplicable dust coating the pillars over time. I have no logical explanation for how this happens, but it appears some of the sand is getting out. I have no idea how this is even possible, but over time a fine powder builds up on the wooden pillars. It makes no sense to me. I just wipe it down after using it, and it does not really bother me. I am vexed that I am unable to explain its occurrence. There must be some microscopic hole allow it to escape.
