LIMITED INVENTORY

Like our bobbin sand timers this barometer is made of recycled industrial artifacts dating back to the 1940's. The timer is composed of antique wood spools found in abandoned textile mills in England and Scotland. The spools were used to hold thread, cotton, and yarn that were spun into fabric. Yarn passed between these rollers to be pressed and controlled before it was spun into fabric.

The Goethe-Galileo weather barometer within the bobbin frame provides advanced warning of weather changes based on atmospheric pressure. High Pressure causes water in the spout to fall, indicating fair weather is coming. Low-pressure causes water to rise in the spout, indicating precipitation will likely occur. A rapidly approaching storm, will cause water to drip from the spout opening onto a drip catcher.
Dating back to the 1600's the weather barometer was believed to be used by Pilgrims who brought them to the colonies. This particular piece also combines with a thermometer. The Galileo thermometer has 5 floating balls
and is filled with liquid that changes density as it heats and cools. The balls of liquid rise and fall with the temperature change . The lowest floating ball reads the current temperatures.

As with all antique and hand-made items, the colors and decorations vary from piece to piece. We consider this to be a special part of their history and character.
