This custom Signature Collection hourglass is handcrafted from solid ziricote wood grown in Central America. Often referred to as a "poor man's" ebony, this is a dark, very striking wood. The color is brown with irregular dark brown and black streaking. Ziricote is the most dramatic member of the Cordia genus, which grows in Central and tropical South America. It it also the heaviest, most dense wood we carry. Combined with glass bulbs hand-blown in England, this sand timer makes a bold statement in any room.

  • Offered in 2 sizes - 4"D x 6"H and 6"D x 10"H (size approximate as globes are handblown and frame built around them)
  • Available fully assembled (as shown) or in kit form.
  • Fully assembled have 5 or 15 minute timers in the 4x6 size, 60 or 50 minutes in the 6x10 size
  • Kits are available with two options:
  • You assemble, no sand - for customers who want to add their own sand (i.e. two different colors). Note: globe provided has a larger hole to accommodate different types of sand so timer accuracy is not ensured.
  • You assemble, sand included - for customers who want a more accurate hourglass. The natural sand you see pictured comes with your kit (not available with all options).
  • Made when ordered, usually arrives within 2 weeks.

The hourglass I ordered was used for my wedding and it was beautiful.** The wood I crafted nice the engraving was elegant and the overall piece once completed was gorgeous. I do recommend if you buying the hourglass as a kit to wait to buy the sand and funnel until the hourglass arrives because the hole is small.

I'm totally glad with the hourglass it was a gift for my boyfriend I'll never forget the smile in his face when he opened the box and found the hourglass he said that it was the best gift he has received! The laser engraving was also perfect!!

I bought this hourglass as a graduation gift for my daughter and had it customized to run for 50 minutes instead of an hour because she is a psychologist and counseling sessions last 50 minutes. It's absolutely beautiful! Great quality! She loves it!
